Bad heating or no heat? Here’s how to solve common oven problems

Ovens can be one of the most useful cooking appliances in any kitchen, they take care of the food while freeing you up to do other things. So, we know you appreciate having yours working properly! But like any other appliance you can also run into issues when cooking with an oven, here are some of the most common ones and how to fix them quickly.

How to fix an oven that’s not heating up?

This is one of the most basic but problematic issues you can run into with your appliances when they just won’t do what they are made to do.

An oven that’s not heating up can have several fixes and it depends on your model.

Electric ovens

  • Check your heating coils and see if they are turning up or going red, replace the theme if not.
  • Check the electric system if none of the lights are on even in the panel, something is going on with your power sources or delivery.

Gas ovens

  • Check your igniter to make sure it’s working, it might not be sparking a flame so the gas can’t stay on and won’t heat up.
  • Replace your igniter
  • Check your gas tank and hose, gas may not be delivered correctly, and replace them if needed

Your oven is heating up but unevenly, how can you fix that?

So, if your oven is working but not the way you need it to, then you need to look closer and fix the issue.

Electric ovens & gas ovens

You are probably looking at some issue with the temperature sensor inside the oven. This is the part of the oven that lets the appliance know when to heat or cool.

Here’s what you need to do.

  1. Check your manual for where the temperature sensor is
  2. Find the temperature sensor, check that it’s working properly by measuring temperature with it, and replace it if you need to

Another thing that could be causing the issue is a dirty oven. Having a buildup of debris in the oven can prevent heating from working properly and even become a fire risk

Here’s what you need to do.

  1. Clean your oven of any debris, grease, and leftover food.
