Why fridge leaks water?

If you’ve ever noticed water pooling around the base of your refrigerator, you may have a problem with your fridge leaking water. While this is certainly not something that should be ignored, it’s also nothing to panic about either. In most cases, a fridge leaking water can be easily fixed by addressing the source of the leak and taking steps to prevent further leaks from occurring. In this blog post, we’ll explore why fridges leak water and how to fix it.

In order to understand why fridge leaks water, it’s important to first look at the components of your fridge and how they work together. Refrigerators consist of two main parts: a condenser coil that cools air and an evaporator coil that helps circulate cool air inside your refrigerator. When refrigerant passes through these coils, heat is released from the fridge and transferred outside. As these coils become worn or improperly installed over time, small amounts of liquid refrigerant can escape and cause a leak.

The most common causes for refrigerator leaks include a broken or cracked drain pan, clogged defrost drains, loose fittings in the ice maker supply line, or a malfunctioning water filter. In some cases, your fridge’s main seal may have a tear or hole that needs to be repaired. Whatever the cause, it’s important to address the issue right away and make necessary repairs.

Fortunately, most fridge leaks can be easily fixed with some basic DIY techniques. Start by shutting off your refrigerator’s water supply line and draining any existing liquid out of the base pan. If you find standing water inside your refrigerator, clear it with a mop or towel. Depending on what caused the leak in the first place, you may need to repair or replace drain pans, seals, lines or filters. Additionally, you can take preventative measures to keep your fridge from leaking in the future by regularly checking and cleaning its condenser coils and inspecting its fittings for any signs of wear or tear.

Remember: if your refrigerator is leaking water, don’t panic. A professional repairperson may be able to help address the issue, but often times it’s something you can fix yourself with a few simple steps. With a little bit of knowledge and effort, you can stop your fridge from leaking water and keep it running smoothly for years to come.
