How Often Should You Do Maintenance On Your Appliances?

Household appliances are the unsung heroes of our daily lives, making tasks more manageable and efficient. Yet, like any machine, appliances require regular maintenance to ensure they continue operating. Maydone is here to help you take care of your appliances.

We’ll dive into the recommended maintenance schedules for four essential appliances:

  1. Washing machine
  2. Dryer
  3. Dishwasher
  4. Fridge

How often to perform maintenance on your washing machine?

Your washing machine works hard to keep your clothes clean, but proper maintenance is necessary to avoid premature damage and constant washer repair emergencies

a. Monthly Check-ups: Inspect the rubber door gasket for any signs of mold, mildew, or debris. Wipe down the gasket and the inside of the door with a mixture of water and vinegar to prevent unpleasant odors.

Run an empty cycle with hot water and a washing machine cleaner to remove any detergent buildup.

b. Quarterly Maintenance: Every three months, check the hoses for leaks, bulges, or cracks. Tighten any loose connections and replace damaged hoses promptly.

Clean the lint filter if your machine has one, and inspect the drainage pump for debris, removing any lint or foreign objects.

c. Biannual Deep Clean: Twice a year, perform a more thorough cleaning. Remove and clean the detergent dispenser, check the water inlet filters for clogs, and inspect the drain pump filter.

Clean the exterior of the machine and the control panel with a mild detergent.

How often to perform maintenance on your dryer?

Regular maintenance of your dryer not only ensures efficient performance but also reduces the risk of fire hazards associated with lint buildup.

a. After Every Load: Empty the lint trap after each use to prevent lint buildup, which can lead to reduced airflow and longer drying times.

It’s a quick and simple task that significantly contributes to your dryer’s efficiency.

b. Quarterly Vent Inspection: Every three months, inspect the dryer vent for lint accumulation.

If your vent is long or has multiple turns, consider hiring a professional vent cleaning service to ensure optimal airflow and reduce the risk of fire.

c. Annual Deep Clean: Once a year, go beyond the lint trap and thoroughly clean the vent duct. Disconnect the dryer from the power source, remove the vent hose, and use a vent brush or vacuum attachment to remove lint from the duct.

This deep cleaning helps maintain optimal performance and safety.

How often to perform maintenance on your dishwasher?

Your dishwasher may seem self-sufficient, but regular maintenance is essential for keeping it in top shape and ensuring your dishes come out sparkling clean.

a. Monthly Checks: Inspect the dishwasher’s spray arms for clogs or debris. Remove any foreign objects and wipe down the edges of the door and the gasket with a damp cloth.

Run an empty cycle with a dishwasher cleaner to eliminate mineral buildup and odors.

b. Quarterly Inspections: Every three months, inspect the dishwasher racks for rust or damage. Replace any worn-out or damaged rack tines to prevent scratches on your dishes.

Clean the filter to ensure proper drainage and water circulation.

c. Biannual Deep Clean: Twice a year, remove and clean the spray arms, and check for debris in the water inlet valve. Inspect the door seal for signs of wear and tear, replacing it if necessary.

Wipe down the exterior of the dishwasher and clean the control panel with a mild detergent.

How often to perform maintenance on your fridge?

Your refrigerator is the heart of your kitchen, and regular maintenance ensures it continues to run efficiently, keeping your food fresh.

a. Monthly Cleaning: Wipe down the interior shelves, drawers, and walls with a mixture of water and mild detergent.

Check for expired food items and dispose of them. Vacuum the coils at the back or underneath the fridge to prevent dust buildup, which can affect cooling efficiency.

b. Quarterly Checks: Every three months, inspect the door gaskets for cracks or signs of wear. Replace any damaged gaskets to maintain a proper seal and prevent cold air from escaping.

Test the door seal by closing it on a piece of paper – if you can easily pull the paper out, it’s time to replace the gasket.

c. Biannual Maintenance: Twice a year, clean the condenser coils to remove dust and debris, ensuring optimal cooling efficiency.

If your fridge has a water filter, replace it according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Check the freezer for frost buildup and defrost it if necessary.

  • This is the second time I’ve used their services, and both time was helped by Alex. He was incredibly thorough, punctual and incredibly diligent. He went above and beyond and even fixed a wobbly door under my sink. It’s always a pleasure to find a reliable and efficient service, and I would absolutely use Alex in the future!
