The Ultimate Guide to Deep Cleaning Your Oven

Ovens can often become the heart of the kitchen, especially in the winter. This appliance is responsible for culinary magic and delightful treats. However, over time, this appliance gets coated with grease, grime, and baked-on food residue. So, a periodic deep clean is always recommended. Maydone will walk you through the steps to make your oven as clean as possible so you can go back to making delicious meals!

Step 1: Get your cleaning supplies

Before we start cleaning you must gather your cleaning supplies:

  • Oven cleaner
  • Homemade cleaning solution
  • Rubber gloves
  • Scrubbing brush or sponge
  • Microfiber cloths
  • Baking soda
  • Vinegar
  • Water
  • A scraper for particularly tough grime removal  (if you have one)

Now that you are armed with cleaning supplies it’s time to get started!

Step 2: 5 Steps to Prepare the Oven

  1. Remove any racks, trays, and oven accessories from the oven.
  2. Soak them in warm, soapy water to loosen residue while you clean the interior.
  3. If your oven has a self-cleaning function, run it according to the owner’s manual, this will help loosen the debris in the oven.
  4. Self-cleaning cycles can produce smoke and odors, so make sure to open a window to air out the smells.
  5. Read the manual for instructions on how best to clean your oven.

Step 3: Apply your Cleaning Mix

  1. Once your oven has cooled down, it’s time to apply the cleaning mix to help loosen the grime. This will make your job so much easier!
  2. If using a commercial oven cleaner, follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully.
  3. If you are using a homemade cleaning mix, apply as generously.
  4. Focus your cleaning mix on areas with stubborn stains and grease buildup.
  5. Let the mix sit in the oven for at least 30 minutes so it has the chance to work on breaking up the first and grime.

Step 4: Start Scrubbing

  1. Time to put on your rubber gloves and grab a scrubbing brush or sponge!
  2. Start by scrubbing the interior surfaces of the oven, using circular motions to lift away the loosened grime.
  3. Pay extra attention to the walls, floor, and ceiling of the oven, these areas tend to accumulate the most buildup.
  4. For stubborn spots, you can use a scraper to gently peel away residue without scratching the oven.

Step 5: Wipe Clean

Once you are done scrubbing the interior of the oven, it’s time to rinse away the cleaning solution.

Dampen a microfiber cloth with water and wipe down the surfaces to remove any remaining residue.

If you find stubborn spots, use a mixture of equal parts vinegar and water to help dissolve the toughest grease and leave the oven smelling fresh.

Step 6: Clean your Oven Racks and Supplements

While the interior of the oven is drying, you can start cleaning its racks and accessories. Use a scrubbing brush or sponge to remove any remaining residue, then rinse them thoroughly with warm, soapy water.

Once clean, dry the racks and accessories completely before placing them back in the oven.

You are done, nice work!
